The UW Huskies are set to hire former Seattle Seahawks reserve quarterback J.P. Losman as their assistant quarterbacks coach, according to a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel on Thursday.

Losman, who was a first-round NFL Draft pick by the Buffalo Bills in 2004, spent part of the 2010 season on the Seahawks’ roster. Losman didn’t attempt a pass that season, but he crossed paths then with current UW head coach Jedd Fisch, who spent 2010 as the Seahawks’ QB coach under Pete Carroll.

Now, more than a decade and a half later, Losman and Fisch are reportedly set to reunite across town on Montlake.

Losman had a meandering eight-year NFL career. Drafted by Buffalo with the No. 22 overall pick in 2004, he made 33 starts for the Bills over his first five seasons. But after his contract expired with Buffalo, he spent his final three seasons bouncing around as a backup with the Oakland Raiders, the Seahawks and the Miami Dolphins. He also had a stint in the United Football League, where he helped lead the Las Vegas Locomotives to the 2009 league title.

Losman’s coaching career began at Clemson as a student coaching intern in 2017. He was promoted to Clemson’s offensive analyst in 2020 and Tigers’ senior offensive analyst in 2021.

Losman then followed former Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables to Oklahoma after the latter took the Sooners’ head coaching job in 2022. Losman spent the past three seasons as the Sooners’ assistant director of player personnel.

At UW, Losman is set to work alongside recently promoted offensive coordinator Jimmie Dougherty. Dougherty was promoted after previous OC Brennan Carroll left the Huskies to join his father Pete Carroll’s Las Vegas Raiders coaching staff. Dougherty spent the 2024 season as UW’s QB coach and passing game coordinator and will retain his QB coach title.
