The Kansas City Chiefs entered Sunday night with an unbeaten record and one of the NFL’s highest-scoring offenses, having averaged 28.0 points and a league-high 414 total yards through their first five games.

But they were no match for the Seattle Seahawks’ “Dark Side” defense.

Seattle held Kansas City to one of its worst offensive performances of the Patrick Mahomes era, limiting the Chiefs to just 213 total yards in a smothering 20-3 victory.

Just how impressive was the Seahawks’ defense on Sunday night? Here’s a closer look. All historical stats are according to Stathead, unless otherwise noted.

• 3 – The Chiefs’ three points matched their lowest point total in Mahomes’ 153 career regular-season and postseason starts since he entered the league in 2017. Kansas City’s only other time being held to three points with Mahomes was in a 2021 loss to the Tennessee Titans.

• 213 – The Chiefs’ 213 total yards were their second-fewest in a game started by Mahomes. Kansas City’s low-water mark with Mahomes was 212 yards in a divisional round playoff win over the Houston Texans in January 2025.

• 0 – The Seahawks didn’t allow a completion longer than 19 yards or a run longer than 9 yards. It marked first time in the Mahomes era that the Chiefs didn’t have a completion of 20-plus yards or a run of 10-plus yards, according to CBS Sports.

• 0 – The Chiefs didn’t reach the red zone all night and only drove inside the Seattle 30-yard line on one of their eight possessions. It marked the first time in a Mahomes start that Kansas City didn’t have a single red-zone drive, according to NFL.com.

• 36 – The Seahawks held former teammate Kenneth Walker III to just 36 yards on 14 carries. Walker entered the night as the NFL’s leading rusher, having run for 665 yards and 6.3 yards per carry through his first five games. Seattle has now gone a league-best 36 consecutive games without allowing a 100-yard rusher.

• 5.0 – The Seahawks held Mahomes to 5.0 yards per pass attempt, which was the fifth-lowest mark of his career. Mahomes’ 165 passing yards were the sixth-fewest of his career.

• 53% – Seattle pressured Mahomes on 19 of his 36 dropbacks for a 53% pressure rate. It was the fourth-highest pressure rate of Mahomes’ career.

• 3.99 – The Seahawks have allowed a league-low 3.99 yards per play this season, which makes them just the fourth defense since 2000 to yield fewer than 4.0 yards per play through the first seven games of a season. The other three defenses to achieve that feat were the 2008 Pittsburgh Steelers (3.76), the 2002 Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3.86) and the 2019 New England Patriots (3.96).
