The Seattle Seahawks have made a trade for perennial Pro Bowl left guard Quenton Nelson, and Seattle Sports’ Brock Huard says there’s a lot to like about the move.
Where Quenton Nelson fits on Seattle Seahawks’ O-line
Here are three things the former NFL quarterback and longtime FOX football broadcaster pointed to in the wake of Seattle’s blockbuster deal with the Indianapolis Colts for Nelson.
3 things on the Quenton Nelson trade
• No. 1. You bolster the line of scrimmage.
It’s not just about having enough pass rushers to win a Super Bowl. You need difference makers on your side of the ball, on the offensive line.
We saw Christian Haynes, we saw Beau Stephens (play on the Seahawks’ O-line). They’re good backup players, but they’re not difference-making Super Bowl winners. Quenton Nelson has that kind of talent as a former top-10 pick.
• No. 2. This reinforces the messaging of coach Mike Macdonald.
Macdonald says all the time, I love this team. We’re going to run it forward. We’re going to continue to evolve and get better.
This gives you a chance to do it.
• No. 3. This can be for the long term.
This has Leonard Williams vibes. (The Seahawks in 2023 traded) for Leonard Williams. He was a top-10 pick. You get to know him, he gets to know you.
Nelson is going to play left guard and Grey Zabel will play right guard, and I hope this is a situation where this is not a rental for just this season but it’s a long-term play as well.
