Michael Bumpus reacted to the Seahawks' reported addition of Trevon Diggs by detailing what it says about the cornerback room.

For the second time in less than a week, the Seattle Seahawks have reportedly agreed to a contract with a cornerback in free agency.

It seems to indicate that the Seahawks are not particularly confident in their depth at the position, as Seattle Sports’ Michael Bumpus pointed out in the wake of Tuesday’s report by ESPN NFL insider that the Hawks will sign Trevon Diggs.

The Diggs news comes six days after it was reported Seattle agreed to a deal with corner Terrion Arnold, who is expected to go on the commissioner’s exempt list once he signs a contract as he is facing eight felony charges related to a February robbery and kidnapping in Florida.

“There’s some concern in that (cornerback) room,” said Bumpus, who is a Seahawks Radio Network broadcaster and former NFL wide receiver, on Wednesday’s edition of Bump and Stacy. “It could be because of age, it could be depth, it could be performance. Either way you slice it, there’s concern in that room.”

The Seahawks have who is now the highest-paid corner in the game in Devon Witherspoon, who signed a four-year extension worth $132 million over the weekend. They also have Josh Jobe returning on the outside. But with Riq Woolen having left in free agency for the Philadelphia Eagles and third-round pick Julian Neal having missed nearly all of training camp with an undisclosed injury, Seattle is certainly thin at the position.

The other cornerbacks on Seattle’s roster currently include 2026 seventh-round picks Michael Dansby and Andre Fuller, undrafted rookie Jordan Washington, and third-year corner Nehemiah Pritchett, who has been more of a special teams player since he was picked in the fifth round in 2024.

“If I’m one of these young guys, if I am Dansby, if I’m Fuller, if I’m Pritchett, if I’m Jordan Washington, I’m perking up and I have to prove my worth on this team,” Bumpus said. “… They’re bringing this in as a challenge to these young guys too. And this is the business of football. It is not personal. They’re not bringing a guy in because they don’t like Dansby. They’re not bringing a guy in because they don’t like Fuller. They’re bringing them in because that room is young, even with the leadership of Spoon.

“… There’s some concern there. What’s the concern? We can’t pinpoint it, but I can narrow it down to three things. Leadership, youth, performance – one of those three they’re concerned about.”
