UW men’s hoops adds more transfers, another 4-star H.S. recruit

UW Huskies men’s basketball coach Danny Sprinkle has added four more players as he retools his roster following a rough first season in the Big Ten.

After mass exodus, UW Huskies reportedly adds 3 transfers

Over the past two weeks, the Huskies signed guard Wesley Yates III, forward Bryson Tucker and forward Jacob Ognacevic, who are all four-star transfers according to 247Sports.com. They also signed four-star high school forward Jasir Rencher.

The new pledges join a now 11-man recruiting class that includes transfer point guard Quimari Peterson and center Lathan Sommerville, international forward Hannes Steinbach of Germany, community college center Mady Traore, and high school point guard JJ Mandaquit, forward Niko Bundalo and guard Courtland Muldrew.

The Huskies have the 11th-ranked recruiting class in the nation, per 247Sports.

All the additions come after another year of mass exodus for UW. Seven Huskies entered the transfer portal, per On3.com. The list is made up of forward Christian King, guard Mekhi Mason, point guard Jase Butler, forward Dominique Diomande, center KC Ibekwe, forward Wilhelm Breidenbach and forward Tyler Harris. King has committed to Montana State, Mason to Wake Forest, Butler to Colorado State and Diomande to BYU.

Guard Zoom Diallo and center Franck Kepnang are the only holdovers on scholarships on UW’s 2025-26 roster.

The Huskies went 13-18 and finished last in the Big Ten at 4-16 in conference play this season in Sprinkle’s first year.

• Wesley Yates III, G, USC

Yates, a 6-foot-4 rising sophomore shooting guard, is making his return to Montlake. A former four-star high school recruit, Yates transferred to USC last year after redshirting as a freshman at UW. In his lone season with the Trojans, Yates averaged 14.1 points and shot 43.9% from 3-point range while making 24 starts in 33 games played. He added 2.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.2 steals per game. Yates is the cousin of former UW star Quincy Pondexter.

• Bryson Tucker, F, Indiana

Tucker, a 6-foot-7 rising sophomore small forward, averaged 5.4 points and 2.9 rebounds in 23 games as a freshman at Indiana this season. Tucker was a five-star recruit and McDonald’s All-American coming out Bishop O’Connell High School in Arlington, Va.

• Jacob Ognacevic, F, Lipscomb

Ognacevic, a 6-foot-8 rising fifth-year senior power forward, was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year and led Lipscomb to regular season and conference tournament tiles and an NCAA Tournament appearance this season. He averaged a conference-high 20.0 points and shot 57.5% from the field and 80% from the free-throw line, adding 8.0 rebounds and 1.4 assists per contest in 35 games. Ognacevic scored 30 or more points five times.

A two-time All-Atlantic Sun first-teamer, Ognacevic missed the 2023-24 season with a bone bruise in his right knee. He started his career at Valparaiso in the Missouri Valley Conference before transferring to Lipscomb after his freshman season. He averaged double figures in scoring in all three of his seasons at Lipscomb, including 17.1 points per game in 2022-23.

• Jasir Rencher, F, Archbishop Riordan H.S. (Oakland, Calif.)

Rencher, a 6-foot-5 small forward, is the No. 87 recruit in the nation and No. 11 in the state of California, according to 247Sports.com. He also held offers from BYU, Cal, LSU, Texas A&M, Washington State and others. Rencher averaged 14.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.7 steals per game while helping Archbishop Riordan reach the California Interscholastic Federation Open Division state title game as a senior. Rencher originally committed to Texas A&M, but flipped to UW after Aggies head coach Buzz Williams left to coach Maryland.
