UW Huskies men’s basketball to hire general manager, per report

The UW Huskies men’s basketball team plans to hire Alex Kline as the program’s general manager, according to a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

The 32-year-old Kline would be the first general manager in program history. He has prior experience as a college basketball general manager and NBA scout.

Kline spent the past two seasons as the general manger for the men’s basketball program at Syracuse, his alma mater, before being relieved of his duties in March. He was the first-ever person to hold the position for the team.

Prior to his role at Syracuse, he spent four seasons as a scout for the New York Knicks (2020-24) and four years as a basketball operations assistant with the New Orleans Pelicans (2016-20).

Kline became notable in basketball circles as a high schooler in 2010 when he founded The Recruit Scoop, a website dedicated to high school basketball recruiting coverage. He was named to the Forbes 30 under 30 sports list in 2013 and ’14.

Kline is set to join a Huskies squad searching for its first NCAA Tournament berth since 2019 as it heads into its third season under head coach Danny Sprinkle. UW has a 29-35 record, including 11-29 in Big Ten play, under Sprinkle.
