The No. 17 UW Huskies will be without their top two running backs for an extended period of time after starter Quaid Carr and backup Jayden Limar sustained injuries in Sunday’s 24-10 Apple Cup win over the WSU Cougars, head coach Jedd Fisch said Monday.

Carr, a sophomore, will undergo hand surgery. He rushed for 28 yards on five carries in the Apple Cup before exiting in the second quarter.

Limar, a senior transfer from Oregon, injured his elbow. He rushed for 47 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries.

Asked whether Carr and Limar will miss the remainder of the season, Fisch said, “I don’t know that yet, but I know they’re not going to be back for a while.”

Four-star true freshman Brian Bonner Jr. and sixth-year Troy transfer Trey Cooley will primarily handle the running back duties going forward, Fisch said. Cooley had four carries for 1 yard in the Apple Cup, while Bonner didn’t receive a carry.

The Huskies host Utah State on Saturday and Eastern Washington on Sept. 19 before hosting Minnesota in their Big Ten opener on Sept. 26.
