Former Mariners UT Dylan Moore triggers opt-out clause

Former longtime Seattle Mariners utility player Dylan Moore could be a free agent soon.

Will Sammon of The Athletic reported Thursday morning that Moore has triggered an opt-out clause with the Philadelphia Phillies. The 33-year-old Moore is with Philadelphia as a non-roster spring training invitee on a minor league contract.

With the opt-out clause triggered, it gives the Phillies 48 hours to add him to their 40-man roster or otherwise let Moore become a free agent.

Sammon noted that some teams dealing with injury concerns could look to add Moore, naming the New York Mets, Baltimore Orioles, and – this is a potentially interesting one – the Houston Astros, who are the defending American League West champion Mariners’ chief rival in the division.

At the same time, the Mariners could potentially show interest in Moore if they’re unsure that shortstop J.P. Crawford, who has been limited most of this spring with a shoulder issue, will be ready in time to start the regular season next week on the active roster. Moore has 128 career appearances at shortstop, all with Seattle.

Moore is 7 for 31 with a double and two stolen bases in Grapefruit League play this spring for the Phillies, slashing .226/.324/258 for a .582 OPS.

The Mariners released Moore last August amid prolonged struggles at the plate. It came just four months after he won American League Player of the Week honors. Moore soon after caught on with the Texas Rangers, who he played 18 games for. Moore slashed a combined .201/.267/.374 for a .642 OPS with 11 homers and 15 stolen bases over 106 games in 2025 between Seattle and Texas.
