Best Super Bowl champ since 2000? Why Seahawks have a case

The Seattle Seahawks returned to the NFL mountaintop Sunday night, beating the New England Patriots 29-13 in Super Bowl 60 to capture their franchise’s second Lombardi Trophy.

And in doing so, the Seahawks completed one of the more dominant seasons in league history.

After finishing the regular season with an NFL-best plus-191 point differential, Seattle outscored its three postseason opponents by a combined 55 points.

That gives the Seahawks a plus-246 point differential across both the regular season and postseason, which is the highest mark by a Super Bowl champion since the 1999 St. Louis Rams. It’s also the ninth-highest mark by a Super Bowl champion all-time, according to Stathead.

In terms of average point differential per game, the Seahawks finished at plus-12.3. That ranks third among Super Bowl champions since 2000, trailing only the 2013 Seahawks (plus-12.37) and the 2016 Patriots (plus-12.32). Seattle’s plus-12.3 mark ranks 18th out of the 60 Super Bowl winners.
