Eleven years after the New England Patriots made a play that has haunted the Pacific Northwest ever since, the Seattle Seahawks exacted their revenge.
And they did it in rather convincing fashion.
Stacy: Super Bowl-winning Seattle Seahawks created their own identity
The Seahawks were in firm control all game long and even looked like they could pitch the first-ever Super Bowl shutout before settling for a 29-13 triumph over the Patriots on Sunday at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
After Seattle secured it second Lombardi Trophy, Seattle Sports’ Brock Huard shared his reaction to the win.
“Come on now Pats fans, where you at? Come on some of you national folks that turned (on the Seahawks) at the end. I don’t know if you wanted to be a contrarian (or) really think the Patriots had a chance. Not against this group,” said Huard, a former NFL quarterback. “And much like the Super Bowl in 2013 (was) won in a dominant effort, this was the dominant team.”
Huard saw another complete team effort from the Seahawks.
“We ended Friday’s show (of Brock and Salk) saying this is one through 70. One through 70 you gotta deal with,” Huard said. “You gotta deal with Rylie Mills and his first career sack in the Super Bowl. You gotta deal with the hellfire of pressure that’s coming from everywhere and totally sped up Drake Maye to the point (where) he just could not function.”
Mills, who had only played one snap in the playoffs before the Super Bowl, was among four different Seahawks to record a sack of Maye, the Patriots QB who was sacked six total times. Derick Hall had two sacks and a forced fumble. Julian Love and Uchenna Nwosu each added interceptions, including a pick-six for Nwosu.
Huard highlighted the defensive play calling by Mike Macdonald, who became the first-ever head coach to win a Super Bowl while also calling defensive plays.
“You were in your bag tonight, my friend. You couldn’t have done it any better,” Huard said.
Seattle’s offense was led by Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III’s 161 yards from scrimmage, which included 135 yards rushing. Quarterback Sam Darnold completed 19 of 38 passes for 202 yards and a 16-yard TD strike to tight end AJ Barner. Cooper Kupp paced the receivers with 61 yards on six receptions.
With the Seahawks now having two Super Bowl victories over 12 years, Huard hopes to see the franchise get more recognition nationally.
“This is now twice in a little over 10 years that the Seattle Seahawks are world champions, and it’s time for this brand right here to get its due,” Huard said.

Funny enough there were national people that got quickly tired of the 12s. I've been following the team since 2002 when the re-alignment happened, so it's not long in comparison to the age of the franchise, but it has been most of my lifespan now so do pardon that part. I'm looking forward to the parade and to next year, I think we have a couple more years with most of the players here.
