Football can be very complicated. This game was incredibly simple.
The Seahawks’ defense hit, harassed, confused, stole from, and ultimately embarrassed the Patriots’ offense. They threatened a Super Bowl record for sacks. It felt for much of the game like a shutout was a real possibility. That didn’t come to fruition, but the blowout sure did.
It was a game that perfectly encapsulated all of the sayings coach Mike Macdonald repeated throughout the season. It was a complementary win with all three units contributing. It was all 11 players on the field working together and making it feel like 12 as one. They played loose but focused. They stacked plays. The “ready squad” showed up and the depth was a factor.
And as the final seconds ticked away, there was no drama. There was no threat of a major meltdown. There was just a dominant team putting it to an inferior opponent.
It reminded us what it was like to see a truly good football team – something that we all knew had been missing for a while. It may never fully erase the memories from the last time these two franchises met in the Super Bowl, but it will sure make it a whole lot less painful. Because this memory will supersede any pain or suffering of the past.
This one was sweet. This one will last. And this could be the start of a very special run.

The Seahawks’ defense turned in one of the most dominant performances in Super Bowl history to cap off what was a thoroughly dominant season.
Super Bowl champions, in resounding fashion.
