Super Bowl Pregame: Pats taunt Seahawks with Malcolm Butler appearance

The New England Patriots seemed to needle the Seattle Seahawks with one of their choices for the pregame festivities of Super Bowl 60.

The Patriots brought out Super Bowl 49 hero – or villain, if you’re a Seahawks fan – Malcolm Butler to ring the bell ahead of kickoff, which is a tradition before their home games at Foxboro Stadium.

A former cornerback, Butler is best known for making the game-saving interception of then-Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson in the end zone during the closing moments of the Super Bowl matchup between Seattle and New England some 11 years ago, sealing a 28-24 win for the Pats when Seattle had come within a yard of taking the lead with 26 seconds to go.

Essentially, Butler is the man responsible for maybe the most painful single play in Seattle sports history, so his appearance no doubt sent a shiver down the spine of many Seattle fans.

The Seahawks, meanwhile, were able to recreate their own home game tradition before the Super Bowl, with Hall of Fame wide receiver Steve Largent raising the 12 flag just before things got going at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.
