NFL insider gives positive update on Nick Emmanwori’s status

The Seattle Seahawks unexpectedly placed Nick Emmanwori on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list on Monday, a full four days before the team starts training camp, which is the earliest we can expect to learn specifics about the injury he’s dealing with officially from the Seahawks.

Luckily, Seattle Sports’ Bump and Stacy talked to NFL Network insider Steve Wyche on Tuesday, and he shared some info that should help fans breathe a sigh of relief.

“I have been told by someone there it’s not something that they’re overly concerned with,” Wyche said. “So I don’t think this is something that’s surgical that’s going to require something that’s going to keep him out for a while.”

That at least takes the concern level down when it comes to the star second-year safety, though there is still no indication what exactly is the problem for Emmanwori. To this point, the only known injuries Emmanwori has encountered in his NFL career are a pair of ankle issues. He missed three games early last season with a high-ankle sprain suffered in Week 1, then had an injury scare with another ankle problem suffered in practice the week ahead of the Seahawks’ Super Bowl win, though he was able to play 70 snaps in the title game.

Wyche added that the PUP list rules in training camp, which allow players to be activated any time and immediately to practice, mean the injury concern could be especially low.

Bump’s hope about Nick Emmanwori going on PUP list

“Remember with this rule, because they declared him on the PUP now, at any point they can activate him once he’s medically cleared,” Wyche said. “So he could come out the second day and be fine.”
