The Seattle Seahawks ruled out running back Zach Charbonnet for Sunday night’s showdown against the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs, which means his return from February knee surgery will have to wait at least another week.
Breakdown: The crux of Seahawks’ offensive struggles
Charbonnet was activated off the physically unable to perform list on Thursday and was a full participant in practice this week for the first time since tearing his ACL in January.
Head coach Mike Macdonald, who said earlier in the week that Charbonnet had a chance to play against the Chiefs, confirmed on Friday that the fourth-year running back didn’t experience a setback in practice.
“I think we’re going along with the plan,” Macdonald said. “The plan was to get a great week’s worth of work and see where we’re at, and so we’re gonna take it into next week. I’d just say it’s part of the plan. Zach’s doing great and we’ll go into next week and see how it goes.”
Seattle also listed standout safety Nick Emmanwori (hip), five-time Pro Bowl edge rusher DeMarcus Lawrence (knee), veteran edge rusher Uchenna Nwosu (hip), rotational edge rusher Connor O’Toole (hamstring) and backup quarterback Drew Lock (elbow) as questionable.
In addition, the Seahawks ruled out starting linebacker Drake Thomas (ankle) and reserve linebacker/special teamer Chazz Surratt (calf). Thomas will miss his second straight game, with backup Tyrice Knight expected to start in his place again.
Meanwhile, right guard Anthony Bradford (knee) is set to return to the starting lineup after missing the past five games, Macdonald said. Seattle plans to activate him off injured reserve on Saturday.
Emmanwori’s hip issue was a new addition to the injury report on Friday. The 2025 Defensive Rookie of the Year runner-up, who missed the season opener while working back from July ankle surgery, was also listed with a hip injury on Seattle’s Week 2 practice report.
“I wouldn’t say he got hurt,” Macdonald said. “He had a hip today.”
Lawrence’s knee injury and Nwosu’s hip injury were both new additions to the practice report on Thursday.
Chiefs injury report
Kansas City ruled out wide receiver Rashee Rice (hamstring/knee), starting right tackle Jaylon Moore (concussion) and third-string running back Brashard Smith (hamstring).
Rice will miss his second straight game. He has 13 catches for 190 yards and a touchdown in four games this season, including 80-plus yards in Week 2 and Week 3.
