NFL insider floats Seahawks as a Jonathan Taylor trade suitor

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport "wouldn't be surprised" if Seattle was interested in the Colts star RB at the trade deadline.

With rumblings that the Indianapolis Colts could look to move three-time Pro Bowl running back Jonathan Taylor ahead of the trade deadline, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport on Friday mentioned the Seattle Seahawks as a potential suitor.

Breakdown: The crux of Seahawks’ offensive struggles

“If Jonathan Taylor is available, I would expect many teams to be interested,” Rapoport said on the The Pat McAfee Show. “I wouldn’t be surprised if Seattle was one of them.”

The Seahawks’ rushing attack has sputtered this season after the free agency departure of Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III, along with the injury absences of Zach Charbonnet and Jadarian Price. Seattle ranks 18th in the NFL in yards per carry (3.9) and 30th in EPA per carry, according to Sumer Sports.

Charbonnet, who missed the start of the season while working back from February ACL surgery, was activated off the physically unable to perform list on Thursday and has a chance to play this week. Price, who is dealing with a chest injury, is eligible to be activated off injured reserve as soon as next week.

Rapoport also mentioned the ties between Colts interim general manager Ed Dodds and Seahawks GM John Schneider. Dodds replaced former Colts GM Chris Ballard, who was fired on Monday amid the team’s disappointing 2-4 start.

Dodds worked in a variety of roles with the Seahawks from 2007-16, including as the team’s senior personnel executive under Schneider.

“Ed Dodds, who’s running the personnel department there, does have ties to Seattle (and) knows John Schneider incredibly well,” Rapoport said.

Taylor has rushed for 8,090 yards and 76 touchdowns over seven seasons with the Colts, who drafted him with a second-round pick in 2020. He trails only Baltimore Ravens star Derrick Henry for the NFL’s most rushing yards since entering the league.

Taylor has topped 1,400 rushing yards three times, including a league-high 1,811 yards and 18 TDs in 2021. He rushed for 1,431 yards and 11 TDs in 2024, followed by 1,585 yards and 18 TDs in 2025.

Taylor has 492 rushing yards and seven TDs in six games this season, while averaging 4.0 yards per carry

In August, Taylor signed a two-year, $44 million extension that keeps him under contract through 2028. Taylor is the league’s third-highest-paid running back, with an average annual value of $22 million.

The Seahawks are projected to have 12 draft picks in 2027, which gives them plenty of ammunition to swing a deal at the trade deadline.

“The price will be high,” Rapoport said of what Taylor could cost.

If there is any trading done with the Colts, it better be for Quenton Nelson. Trading for Taylor doesn't make sense after we were willing to let a known stud walk away and sign w/ the Chiefs. Q. Nelson would be an amazing player. Anyone would be able to run behind that OL then. Move QN to RG or Zabel to RG
