The Seattle Seahawks delivered an unpleasant surprise Monday when standout safety Nick Emmanwori was one of three they added to the physically unable to perform (PUP) list ahead of training camp’s official start on Saturday.

It was not a move anyone saw coming as Emmanwori has participated this offseason in both the Seahawks’ minicamp and their OTA practices.
Emmanwori missed time early during his stellar rookie season in 2025, as he was absent from three games in September after he suffered a high-ankle sprain in the team’s season opener. He also had another injury scare, again with an ankle, in practice ahead the Super Bowl in February, but he was able to play 70 snaps in Seattle’s championship victory.
Whether Emmanwori’s injury concern now is related to his previous ankle issues or something new altogether, Seattle Sports’ Michael Bumpus has hope that it isn’t something too serious.
“A lot of times, it could be something real simple,” Bumpus said while reacting to the news on Monday’s edition of Bump and Stacy. “(The Seahawks may be) like, alright, he’s already in good shape, he’s been to all of our stuff, let’s just make sure that he’s able to get through a camp unscathed.
“It’s not like he’s going to get lots of reps during the preseason games. It’s going to be more joint practices where he’s going to get his reps there. I’m hoping it’s just being really, really cautious when it comes to Nick Emmanwori.”
The Seahawks can take Emmanwori off of the PUP list at any time during training camp, but he would need to miss the first four games of the season if he remains on PUP after the team cuts down its roster ahead of Week 1 of the regular season. Bumpus, a Seahawks Radio Network host/analyst and former NFL wide receiver, said that some time would need to pass before he would get worried about Emmanwori’s status.
“I’ve played with guys who every year they came in with something just because of wear and tear. Maybe there’s something in their body that just breaks down after a while,” he said. “Not right now (am I concerned about Emmanwori). I’m good on Nick Emmanwori right now. We get closer to the season, maybe two weeks from now, then I start to be concerned.”
