Stacy Rost: 3 numbers that matter for Seahawks vs Cardinals

After beating the New England Patriots in a season-opening Super Bowl rematch, the Seattle Seahawks head to the desert to face the NFC West rival Arizona Cardinals, who are coming off a surprising Week 1 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers.

Ahead of Sunday’s Week 2 matchup, Seattle Sports’ Stacy Rost highlights three numbers that matter. Below is a transcription of the video at the top of this post.

• 2 – The Arizona Cardinals had two takeaways in Week 1. Now, you do not ever want to overreact to Week 1 for anything. For instance, the Seahawks had three takeaways. Do I think that the Arizona Cardinals defense is going to be comparable to Seattle’s defense this year? No, I do not. But I do think it’s important to recognize and give credit where it’s due for an Arizona Cardinals team that did a great job making life difficult for the Chargers in Week 1. Those two interceptions are also noteworthy when you consider that the single biggest job Drew Lock is going to have filling in for Sam Darnold: Don’t make any mistakes.

• 73 – It would be difficult for any quarterback and offense to be more efficient than Jackson Dart and the Giants were against the Cowboys – an unbelievable 80% third-down conversion percentage for that team. However, the Arizona Cardinals were still efficient, and looked no further than Jacoby Brissett, the head of that offense, for doing his job on Sunday against the Chargers. He completed 73% of his passes. It wasn’t the No. 1 completion percentage in Week 1, but it was the single-highest completion percentage for any passer to throw for 250 or more yards.

• 3 – There’s a very exciting Seahawks rookie that we’re all going to be watching: Jadarian Price. Last year’s leading rusher among all rookies was Ashton Jeanty, who had a phenomenal season for the Raiders and obviously faces high expectations this year. It took him three weeks before he had his first 100-yard game in Week 4. Jadarian Price had 52 yards on 10 carries in Week 1 for Seattle, 5.2 yards per carry. Meanwhile, Jeremiah Love, his former teammate, had 47 yards and a touchdown. Both rushers, both first-rounders, are going to be looking for that first 100-yard game this weekend. Now let’s hope that Jadarian gets it and not Jeremiah – no disrespect to Love. But as an added perk, it would be very cool to see Jadarian Price get to that in his second week, as opposed to Week 4 like Ashton did last year.
