Uchenna Nwosu: Seahawks’ trade sends message ‘our foot’s on the gas’

The Seattle Seahawks are tied for the best record in the NFC, and with the NFL trade deadline passing earlier this week, they found an opportunity they couldn’t pass up.

A few hours before the Tuesday afternoon deadline, the Seahawks sent a pair of 2026 NFL Draft picks to the New Orleans Saints for speedy wide receiver Rashid Shaheed.

Veteran Seahawks outside linebacker Uchenna Nwosu believes Shaheed is a great fit for Seattle’s offense, but perhaps just as important is what the trade says about the team.

“Absolutely it sends a message,” Nwosu said Thursday when he joined The Huddle on Seattle Sports, “not just to us, but to the rest of the league that we’re trying to win now. We’re trying to go for it now. We feel like we’ve got the pieces, we’ve got the coaches, we’ve got the players.”

The Seahawks aren’t just in the mix to win the NFC West with a 6-2 record. Coming off of their impressive 38-14 win over the Washington Commanders last week on Sunday Night Football, they’ve been the talk of the football world as surprising Super Bowl contenders.

The trade for Shaheed indicates that the Seahawks believe that as much as anybody.

“When we make moves like this, that just shows you that our foot’s on the gas and we think we’ve got a real shot,” Nwosu continued.

Nwosu has high hopes for the offense with Shaheed, who is now reunited with his offensive coordinator from last year in New Orleans, Klint Kubiak, who has turned heads in his first season as Seattle’s OC.

“He brings definitely that deep threat, that speed. (He will) be able to open up the running game I believe a lot more,” Nwosu said. “… He brings a lot and I’m excited to see him out there working with (Jaxon Smith-Njigba) and learn from (Cooper Kupp) and fit into our receiving corps.

“I feel like he’s gonna fit in really well with our scheme, so I’m excited to have him on the team and can’t wait to see what he does.”
