SEATTLE – Head coach Mike Macdonald and his Seattle Seahawks aren’t focused on the past.
They’re only looking forward.

But the team and its third-year head coach had one more moment to reflect on all they accomplished a season ago when the franchise unveiled its second Super Bowl championship banner in front of a packed house at Lumen Field on Wednesday night before the Seahawks kicked of the regular season against the New England Patriots, the team they beat 29-13 for the Lombardi Trophy.
With the Lombardi Trophy and a Super Bowl ring sitting behind him at midfield, former Seahawks wide receiver and longtime play-by-play voice Steve Raible opened the banner reveal ceremony with a short speech, highlighting the fact that Seattle won it all at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California – the home stadium of the division rival San Francisco 49ers – to a large cheer.
After a video highlight package from the 2025 season, Seahawks legend Kam Chancellor took over, introduced the defending champs as they ran out of the tunnel and led the crowd in a “SEA-HAWKS!” chant as the new banner was unveiled.

The new banner added to a growing collection hanging from the rafters on the west side of Lumen Field, which now includes two for Super Bowl titles and four for NFC Championships.
Wednesday’s banner unveil was one of the rarer ones in NFL history. The game marked just the third time there has been a Super Bowl rematch during Week 1 in league history and only the second time the winning team has hosted the rematch. So, the Seahawks joined the the 2016 Broncos as the only teams to raise their Super Bowl banners in front of the team they beat for the title.
