Daniel Jeremiah: Seahawks’ O-line can be among NFL’s best

For years, the offensive line was a perennial weak link for the Seattle Seahawks.

Now, it may be a legitimate strength.

Why Daniel Jeremiah expects Seahawks to handle Patriots again

The Seahawks ranked 12th in ESPN’s pass block win rate last season and surrendered just 27 sacks – their lowest mark in two decades and their third-lowest in franchise history.

Seattle also ranked eighth in ESPN’s run block win rate, as the O-line paved the way for a surging rushing attack that averaged 138 yards per game and 4.5 yards per carry from Week 10 through the Super Bowl.

And the best part? All five starting offensive linemen return. And all five are 27 or younger: left tackle Charles Cross (25), left guard Grey Zabel (24), center Jalen Sundell (26), right guard Anthony Bradford (25) and right tackle Abraham Lucas (27).

The continuity even extends to veteran offensive line coach John Benton, who is back for his second year on Mike Macdonald’s staff after some initial speculation that he’d follow Klint Kubiak to the Las Vegas Raiders.

With that combination of continuity and youth, NFL’s Network’s Daniel Jeremiah told Seattle Sports’ Brock and Salk that he expects the Seahawks to have a top-10 offensive line this fall.

“They played great last year, especially coming down the stretch in those last 10 games,” Jeremiah said. “And then you’ve got the continuity, and you don’t have a bunch of aging players. These guys are all in their prime, they’re young and there’s a strong case to be made that several of them are still ascending.

“You look around the league and there’s very few teams that can say they have those two things on their side – continuity and age. Usually they don’t go together.

“So the fact that they have a young group that’s been together for a while and they just won the whole dang thing? Yeah, I mean, if it’s not a top-10 offensive line, I’d be disappointed.”
