Okada out, Emmanwori questionable for Seahawks vs Patriots

The Seattle Seahawks ruled out safety Ty Okada (hamstring) for Wednesday night’s season-opening Super Bowl rematch against the New England Patriots.

Seattle also listed safety Nick Emmanwori (ankle) and wide receiver Tory Horton (hamstring) as questionable. No other Seahawks have game status designations, which means the rest of their 53-man roster is considered healthy enough to play.

Why Daniel Jeremiah expects Seahawks to handle Patriots again

Okada didn’t practice Sunday or Monday. Emmanwori was limited in practice both days as he works back from July ankle surgery. Horton also was limited as he recovers from a hamstring issue he sustained in training camp.

With Okada out and Emmanwori’s status uncertain, the Seahawks will likely elevate and/or sign multiple safeties from their practice squad prior to Wednesday night. The only other safety on Seattle’s 53-man roster is starter Julian Love. The Seahawks have four safeties on their practice squad: Rodney Thomas II, D’Anthony Bell, AJ Finley and Maxen Hook.

Thomas, who started 26 games with the Indianapolis Colts from 2022-25, could be the most likely option to replace Okada as the second traditional starting safety alongside Love.

Bell would likely be the most natural replacement for Emmanwori’s big-nickel role. Bell made two fill-in starts early last season while Emmanwori was sidelined.

If Emmanwori is out, the Seahawks could also use some three-linebacker sets with Tyrice Knight on the field alongside starters Ernest Jones IV and Drake Thomas.

Patriots injuries

The Patriots ruled out running back TreVeyon Henderson (ankle) and backup center Ben Brown (knee). Defensive tackle Christian Barmore (knee), who returned to practice Monday, has no game status designation and is set to play.

Henderson, a 2025 Offensive Rookie of the Year finalist, rushed for 911 yards and nine touchdowns last season.

With Henderson out, sixth-year pro Rhamondre Stevenson is expected to handle the bulk of the backfield duties for New England. Stevenson rushed for 603 yards and seven TDs in 2025. Corey Kiner, who has 12 career carries, is the only other running back on the Patriots’ 53-man roster.
