The latest to be deemed physically unable to perform is running back Zach Charbonnet, making it five players to be placed on the PUP list in the last five days.
Charbonnet’s placement on the list is no surprise. He is recovering from surgery to repair a torn ACL that he suffered in January in the Seahawks’ divisional round playoff win over the San Francisco 49ers. It has been generally assumed that he will miss the start of the 2026 season, though when head coach Mike Macdonald was asked in June if Charbonnet could be ready to play in Week 1, he smiled and replied, “Anything’s possible.”
Players can be activated from PUP any time during training camp, but if they remain on the list after rosters are cut down to 53 for the regular season, they are required to miss at least the first four weeks.
Seattle put rookie defensive lineman Devin Eastern, a seventh-round pick in May’s NFL Draft, on the PUP list Sunday. Then on Monday, standout second-year safety Nick Emmanwori was an unexpected addition to PUP along with running back Kenny McIntosh and cornerback Tyrone Broden.
What happens now with Emmanwori a PUP list surprise
The 25-year-old Charbonnet had his best year for Seattle to date in 2025, which was his third since the franchise picked him in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of UCLA. He rushed for a career-high 730 yards and 12 touchdowns in 16 games, stellar output despite not starting a single game as he served as the No. 2 back behind Kenneth Walker III.
Though Walker left in free agency in Kansas City, Charbonnet is expected to join the Seahawks’ 2026 first-round pick, Notre Dame’s Jadarian Price, in a new 1-2 RB combination for Seattle once he is healthy.
