Salk on Seahawks: The glorification of Rams has to stop

Can we please stop crowning the Los Angeles Rams already? The season hasn’t even begun yet – and I understand, I don’t want to turn this into just ‘What is Mike complaining about this week?’ But the Rams glorification has really been getting me.

Do they have a good team? Yes. Are they a potential Super Bowl team? Yes, of course, absolutely. But crowning them and saying that they’re the best team in the league right now – I think it ignores a whole bunch bunch of stuff. Let’s run through it.

No. 1, the fact that these super teams often don’t work. We’ve seen this before – a team loads up and gets all these fancy players that everyone’s heard of. And as it turns out, once you’ve heard of players in the NFL, they’re probably not as good as they were before you heard of them, because that’s how the NFL works. Once you’re popular, once you’re a big quality name, your quality of play is probably not what it used to be. You’re probably on the back nine of your career.

That’s not to say Myles Garrett’s not going to be good. Of course he is. He’s a great player, and they’ve got some other ones. But we’ve seen teams try to put together these super teams before. I can’t come up with the last time it actually worked.

And oh, by the way, I’ve talked about this a bunch: They didn’t add Myles Garrett. They upgraded to Myles Garrett. They lost a guy in Jared Verse who was also a very good player. And yes, Myles Garrett is better, but they’re not putting Verse on one side and Garrett on the other. Let’s all hold our horses. Just slow your roll.

Secondly, this idea that if Seahawks running back Zach Charbonnet hadn’t picked up that ball in the end zone for the two-point conversion in Week 16 that the Rams would have just won the Super Bowl. What? First of all, don’t lose to Carolina a couple of weeks later. Second of all, you had three more drives in that game in regulation. Two of them ended in punts, one of them ended in a missed field goal. Why aren’t you yelling at your field goal kicker? Why aren’t you more mad at Matthew Stafford for having to punt the ball away? Why aren’t you more mad at your defense for allowing the Seahawks to go all the way down the field, score a touchdown and a two-point conversion in overtime?

And even though the Seahawks did win that game, guess what all it did? It just let them host the NFC Championship, which you still could have won.

What an embarrassment. Please, stop with the Rams. Are they going to be good? Yeah, probably. Are they a surefire bet to win the Super Bowl? Spare me.
