Seahawks get good news on compensatory draft picks

The NFL announced its 2025 compensatory draft picks on Tuesday afternoon, and it came with some good news for the Seattle Seahawks.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Seahawks were awarded three compensatory picks – one fourth-round pick (No. 137 overall) and two fifth-round picks (No. 172) and (No. 175). That’s slightly better than OverTheCap’s compensatory pick projections, which predicted Seattle to receive a fourth-rounder, a fifth-rounder and a sixth-rounder.

The Seahawks now have 10 total picks in April’s NFL Draft. That includes the second-round pick they received from the Pittsburgh Steelers in Sunday’s DK Metcalf trade and the third-rounder they received from the Las Vegas Raiders in last Friday’s Geno Smith trade.

Seattle is one of six teams with at least three compensatory picks. The maximum a team can have is four.

Compensatory picks are awarded to teams who lost more qualifying free agents than they gained during the previous offseason. The picks are spread between rounds 3-7 based on a league formula that takes into account a player’s average annual salary, snap count and postseason awards.

Seattle’s compensatory picks resulted from offensive guard Damien Lewis signing with the Carolina Panthers, linebacker Jordyn Brooks signing with the Miami Dolphins and linebacker Bobby Wagner signing with the Washington Commanders.

Here’s a look at the 10 picks the Seahawks are currently slated to hold for the 2025 draft. (The Metcalf and Smith trades won’t become official until the new league year begins on Wednesday, but the two draft picks Seattle acquired in those trades are included below.)
