Seahawks Insider: Doug Baldwin grabs Tom Cable, again, this time in a hug

RENTON – First Doug Baldwin put his arm around Tom Cable’s shoulder as the offensive line coach stood behind a table, answering questions following Wednesday’s practice.

Then the Seahawks receiver flashed a thumbs up.

“Hey, buddy,” Cable said.

One reporter observed there was no knife left in Cable’s back.

“Oh no,” Cable said. “Too much love for that kid.”

Anyone still worried about the sideline incident in which Baldwin pushed Cable in an attempt to keep him from talking? You shouldn’t be.

Here’s how Cable described the whole thing.

“I think it’s a player competing and a coach competing to keep everybody together,” Cable said. “Not get out of whack. As you could see at that time we were kind of headed there.”

Things certainly weren’t going great. The Seahawks were on their way to running 49 plays in the first half, gaining more than 220 yards and yet they still had to reach the end zone. Seattle had a touchdown pass dropped and two different drives short-circuited by penalties.

As the offense came to the sideline with about 5 minutes left in the first half, they gathered around and Cable started to address the group. At least he did until Baldwin tried to keep the coach from talking as quarterback Russell Wilson was speaking.

“So it’s frustration and it’s good,” Cable said. “They care. I think nothing of it. I think it was great, and I think Doug handled it beautifully, and we’re done with it.”
