Seahawks GM John Schneider: Jimmy Graham is not being traded

Before the Seahawks’ home game against the Houston Texans on Sunday, Seattle general manager John Schneider had something he wanted to set the record straight on Pro Bowl tight end Jimmy Graham.

“We talk about this all the time that we’re in as many deals as we can possibly can be in, so we’re listening to every scenario we possibly can, and what I can tell you is Jimmy’s not being traded,” Schneider told Steve Raible on the 710 ESPN Seattle pregame show. “He’ll be here.”

The name of Graham, who will be a free agent after the season, has been included in rumors as the NFL’s trade deadline approaches on Tuesday.

The 30-year-old Graham has 24 receptions for 230 yards and two touchdowns this season.

Schneider also took some time to talk about the addition of defensive end Dwight Freeney, a future Hall of Famer that Seattle signed last Tuesday to help a defensive line that is without Cliff Avril due to a neck injury.

“Obviously we’re disappointed with Cliff’s situation. We’ve been on the hunt for a veteran pass rusher to help offset the loss of Cliff,” Schneider said. “(Freeney’s) agent had been hounding me for a couple years now. It just worked out. He came and had a great workout for us. He’s in great shape, takes great care of his body. … It was pretty exciting to see that spin move on Wednesday.”
