Indian steel titan and Boston Celtics investor Aditya Mittal, along with former Celtics control owner Wyc Grousbeck, are preparing a bid to purchase the Seattle Seahawks, according to a report from Sportico on Thursday morning.

Just hours later, Sportico reported that Sun Microsystems co-founder and recent San Francisco 49ers investor Vinod Khosla also is preparing a Seahawks ownership bid.

Mittal, Grousbeck and Khosla appear to be the first legitimately reported names to emerge as potential Seahawks bidders.

Last week, Front Office Sports initially reported that Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg and Apple’s Tim Cook were each considering making bids to buy the team. However, that report was later denied by both parties, according to Bloomberg.

According to Sportico’s report, Mittal and Grousbeck were the only signatures on a letter of interest submitted to Allen & Company, which was hired to handle the sale. Mittal and Grousbeck declined to comment, according to the report. A representative for the Seahawks said there was “no news to share,” per the report.

Mittal, 50, is the CEO of ArcelorMittal, one of the world’s largest steel and mining companies. He succeeded his father, Lakshmi Mittal, as CEO of the Luxembourg-based company in 2021. ArcelorMittal reportedly generated $62 billion in revenue in 2024.

Grousbeck, 64, was the lead owner of the Celtics from 2002-25. During that span, the Celtics won two NBA titles and made four NBA Finals appearances.

Since Mittal lives in London, Grousbeck would reside in Seattle part-time and effectively operate the franchise, according to Sportico’s report.

The estate of Paul Allen announced in February that it was putting the Seahawks up for sale, less than two weeks after the team won its second Super Bowl title. A sale of the Seahawks has been expected since the 2018 death of Allen, who made it a directive for his trust to sell both the Seahawks and the NBA’s Portland Trail Blazers, with proceeds to be donated to philanthropic efforts.

A sale of the Trail Blazers for $4 billion to a group led by investor Tom Dundon was recently approved by the NBA.

Allen purchased the Seahawks in 1997 from Ken Behring for $194 million. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported in February that the sale of the Seahawks is expected to set a new record for the price for a sports franchise. The current record was set by the $10 billion sale of the NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers last year.
