The Seattle Seahawks put together a sheer display of dominance for a second straight week.

The Seahawks scored the game’s first 35 points, including two nearly identical defensive touchdowns, and steamrolled the Arizona Cardinals 44-22 in an NFC West matchup on Sunday at Lumen Field.

The Seahawks improved to 7-2 with the victory and kept pace with the Los Angeles Rams for the best record in their division and the NFC. The 6-2 Philadelphia Eagles, who play Monday night, are the only other two-loss team with at least six wins in the NFC.

Bob Stelton – Wyman & Bob (2-7 p.m. weekdays)

This game was pretty much what you would have expected coming in. The Seahawks are just a better team than the Cardinals, and they showed that right out of the gate.

You couldn’t have asked for a better first half of football – their best of the season! They put up 38 points thanks in large part to two fumbles forced by Tyrice Knight that resulted in both being recovered for touchdowns by DeMarcus Lawrence.

The second half was definitely a bit of a step back with some sloppy play and turnovers. They scored just six points on two field goals in the second half. But they were so dominate and built such a substantial lead early that you don’t really worry about that.

The interesting stat in this is the rushing attempts versus the passing attempts – 46 rushing attempts for 198 yards (a season high) and two TDs to just 12 pass attempts in the entire game for 178 yards and one TD.

This team is rolling through the teams you feel they should beat, and the big test comes in the next game against an equally hot Los Angeles Rams team. That will be the game to truly measure just how good this Hawks team is.

Mike Lefko – Wyman & Bob

A thoroughly dominant performance by the Seahawks’ defense and an impressive win for the totality of domination that Seattle inflicted on Arizona in the first half.

The Seahawks keep losing critical players on defense yet continue to perform at a high level. Nothing embodies the “next man up” mentality like linebacker Tyrice Knight, who lost his starting spot earlier this season and stepped up in a massive win Sunday with two forced fumbles that went for defensive touchdowns. The same can be said for safety Ty Okada and a couple of big hits and passes defended that he had today. You would have never known that this team was missing starters at all three levels of the defense.

It was essentially a shutout for the Seahawks’ defense: the only points allowed came on turnovers that gave the Cardinals the ball right in front of the Seattle end zone and when the game was fully out of reach. And those early touchdowns came after the defense had stopped Arizona’s offense twice on fourth-and-goal. About as impressive of a performance as we have seen from a Mike Macdonald defense, and it’s a large sample size at this point.

You can nitpick the offense being sloppy with the ball, but those turnovers came after a 35-0 lead and the understandable inclination to subconsciously relax with that kind of margin. One undeniably good sign from the Seahawks was the rushing attack being able to put the game away with two time-consuming, yardage-eating drives in the second half. They were unable to do that in the first matchup against the Cardinals, and it almost cost them. Today, they asserted their will on the ground when they needed to do so.

And now, the focus fully turns to the game of the season and the most important one in Mike Macdonald’s tenure: the 7-2 Seahawks versus the 7-2 Rams.
