Deja vu: Seahawks score 2 nearly identical defensive TDs

SEATTLE – Tyrice Knight and DeMarcus Lawrence sent the Lumen Field crowd into a frenzy with the Seattle Seahawks’ first defensive score of the season.

Then for good measure, they did it again.

Knight forced a pair of strip-sack fumbles and Lawrence returned them both for a pair of stunningly similar defensive scores, helping spark the Seahawks’ 38-point first-half onslaught on Sunday afternoon against the Arizona Cardinals.

The first instance came less than six minutes into the game, when Knight raced through Arizona’s offensive line on a blitz and knocked the ball free from backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett. Lawrence grabbed the loose ball off a bounce and returned it for a 34-yard touchdown that gave Seattle an early 14-0 lead.

Then, in the opening minute of the second quarter, Knight again raced through on a blitz and swatted the ball out of Brissett’s hand. Lawrence again grabbed it off the bounce and returned it for a 22-yard TD, stretching the Seahawks’ lead to 28-0.

According to ESPN’s Brady Henderson via ESPN Research, Lawrence is the fourth player in NFL history with multiple fumble return TDs in a game.

Lawrence, a four-time Pro Bowler, had two defensive scores over the first 148 games of his decorated 12-year career. He matched that total in just 16 minutes on Sunday.

Knight’s pair of forced fumbles were the first two of his career. The second-year linebacker started Sunday’s game alongside Drake Thomas after veteran Ernest Jones IV was sidelined with an injury.

The Seahawks led 35-0 midway through the second quarter and 38-7 at the half.
