‘Made in a lab’: A massive DE in draft for Seahawks

Draft for need or best available? How Seahawks can do both

In his latest draft profile on Seattle Sports’ Brock and Salk, former NFL quarterback Brock Huard highlighted 6-foot-6, 276-pound Auburn defensive end Keldric Faulk as a potential target for the Seahawks with their No. 32 overall pick.

“My goodness gracious, when he walks in the room, it’s as if he was made in a lab,” Huard said. “You want to talk about a defensive lineman made in a lab that would be the closest thing to (Seahawks star) Leonard Williams? It would be this guy in this draft.”

Production vs potential

The concern with Faulk was his dip in pass rushing production last fall. After posting 7.0 sacks and 11 tackles for loss as a sophomore in 2024, he recorded just 2.0 sacks and five tackles for loss in 2025.

However, Faulk excelled against the run, ranking 23rd out of 908 edge rushers in Pro Football Focus run defense grading.

“He was never the most productive (pass rusher),” Huard said. “But I would stand on the table and say (that) he was also asked to do the most things within (Auburn’s) scheme. He was asked to take on double teams in their three-down front. He was asked to play and hold and set edges.”

And with his massive frame – combined with the fact he doesn’t turn 21 until September – many believe there’s a lot of untapped potential.

“He’s 6-6 and 276, and he carries it,” Huard said. “… He bends and moves like a man that’s not anywhere near that size. (He has) a 6-11 wingspan. And he’s not even 21 years old, so there is so much clay you’re going to mold.”

Will he be available?

ESPN ranks Faulk as the No. 4 edge rusher and the No. 25 overall prospect in this year’s draft class, so it’s quite possible he’s off the board before Seattle’s No. 32 overall pick.

In recent mock drafts, The Athletic’s Dane Brugler projects Faulk to the Miami Dolphins at No. 11 and ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. slots him to the Buffalo Bills at No. 26. Meanwhile, ESPN’s Peter Schrager doesn’t have Faulk going in the first round.

“Most mock drafts have him taken in the 20s, … so he may not even get to 32,” Huard said. “But if he does, he’s an intriguing guy.”
