Markelle Fultz latest with Seattle ties to join NBA’s Kings

The NBA's Sacramento Kings signed former No. 1 overall draft pick Markelle Fultz for the remainder of the season, they announced Wednesday.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — The Sacramento Kings signed former No. 1 overall draft pick Markelle Fultz for the remainder of the season.

Fultz, who played in college in Seattle with the UW Huskies, joins a team that has multiple ties to the Seattle area. Interim head coach Doug Christie starred in high school at Rainier Beach, and the Kings added two-time All-Star guard Zach LaVine, a Bothell High School product, last week ahead of the NBA trade deadline.

Sacramento announced the deal with Fultz on Wednesday night as the Kings seek more depth at point guard after recently trading away star De’Aaron Fox in the deal that brought in LaVine.

Fultz was drafted first overall by Philadelphia in 2017. He has played 234 career games with the 76ers and Orlando, averaging 11.1 points, 4.6 assists and 3.4 rebounds per game.

Fultz, who struggled with shooting issues that ended his time in Philadelphia, last played in the 2023-24 season for the Magic.
