Mariners prospect Lazaro Montes is on a home-run tear

Highly touted Seattle Mariners outfield prospect Lazaro Montes is on quite the tear.

Montes went 10 for 25 with five home runs and a double in Double-A Arkansas’ six-game series at Corpus Christi this past week, capped by a three-hit night on Sunday.

Montes has 17 home runs in 55 games with Arkansas this season, which is the second-most in the Texas League and tied for seventh across the entire minor leagues. The 21-year-old Cuban native is slashing .235/.345/.540 for a .885 OPS.

Known for his big-time power, Montes is ranked as MLB Pipeline’s No. 27 overall prospect and Baseball America’s No. 57 overall prospect. Last season, the 6-foot-5 lefty slugger finished fourth in the entire minor leagues with 32 home runs between High-A Everett and Arkansas – including a towering 475-foot blast in June 2025.

Montes has dramatic home/road splits this season. He’s batting .318 with 14 homers and a 1.206 OPS in 27 games on the road, while hitting just .140 with three homers and a .515 OPS at home.

Arkansas’ Dickey-Stephens Park is the most pitcher-friendly ballpark in the Texas League, according to Baseball America’s ballpark factors. Corpus Christi’s Whataburger Field, where he spent the past week, is about league-average.
