The Mariners selected the contract of Williamson from Triple-A Tacoma, the club announced Sunday morning. Outfielder Dominic Canzone was optioned back to Tacoma in a corresponding move. Second baseman Ryan Bliss was transferred to the 60-day injured list with the left biceps tear he suffered Tuesday, clearing a spot on the 40-man roster for Williamson.

Williamson, a 24-year-old right-handed bat, is the M’s 13th-ranked prospect, according to MLB Pipeline. In 14 games with the Rainiers, he hit .281 with a .650 OPS three doubles, eight RBIs, two walks and nine strikeouts.

The William & Mary product is known for his standout defense at the hot corner. He provides the M’s an option at the position with opening day third baseman Jorge Polanco dealing with an oblique issue that’s limited him to playing designated hitter and hitting only from the left side of the plate. Polanco is a switch-hitter. Dylan Moore and Miles Mastrobuoni have played third since Polanco started dealing with the issue.

Williamson was not in the starting lineup Sunday.

Canzone went 0 for 3 with two strikeouts in two games after being called up earlier this week.

Bliss is expected to need four to five months to recover from surgery on his torn biceps, the club said Thursday.

The Mariners look for a sweep as they close a three-game series against the Texas Rangers on Sunday at T-Mobile Park. Right-hander Logan Gilbert is set to take on Rangers right-hander Nathan Eovaldi. First pitch is at 1:10 p.m. with the pregame show starting at noon. Listen to Seattle Sports 710 AM or the Seattle Sports app for the radio broadcast.
