For the second time in as many weeks, a Seattle Mariners prospect has entered Baseball America’s Top 100.

Switch-pitching phenom Jurrangelo Cijntje, the Mariners’ 2024 first-round draft pick, moved into Baseball America’s updated Top 100 prospect rankings at No. 100. That comes one week after Mariners right-handed pitching prospect Ryan Sloan, a 2024 second-round pick, also moved into BA’s Top 100.
The Mariners now have nine prospects in the Top 100, which is three more than any other organization. The Los Angeles Dodgers, Tampa Bay Rays and Chicago White Sox are the next-closest with six Top 100 prospects apiece.
The Mariners’ nine Top 100 prospects are shortstop Colt Emerson (No. 15), shortstop Cole Young (No. 53), outfielder Jonny Farmelo (No. 66), second baseman Michael Arroyo (No. 74), Sloan (No. 84), shortstop Felnin Celesten (No. 85), catcher Harry Ford (No. 92), outfielder Lazaro Montes (No. 94) and Cijntje (No. 100).
As an ultra-rare switch-pitcher, Cijntje (pronounced SAIN-jah) is a unicorn talent.
From the right side, the 21-year-old Curacao native and Mississippi State product throws a fastball that touches 99 mph, along with a hard slider and a changeup. He throws from a lower arm slot on the left side, where he mixes a low-90s sinker and low-80s slider.
Though Cijntje’s stuff is currently better from the right side, the Mariners want him to continue developing both arms. According to Baseball America, Seattle’s initial plan is for Cijntje to make regular starts as a right-hander and then mix in a left-handed relief appearance between starts.
Cijntje, the No. 15 overall pick in last summer’s MLB Draft, dazzled in his pro debut with High-A Everett last Saturday. Throwing with both arms, he struck out six batters over four scoreless innings and allowed just one hit and two walks. As a right-hander, he racked up six strikeouts and retired 10 of the 11 batters he faced. As a lefty, he retired one batter and yielded two walks.
Cijntje then made a left-handed relief appearance for Everett on Wednesday. He struck out the first two batters he faced, but then allowed the next four batters to reach base on three walks and a double. He finished with three runs allowed on one hit and three walks in two-thirds of an inning.
Cijntje is scheduled to start for Everett on Saturday night in his home debut for the AquaSox.
