Another Mariners prospect moves into Baseball America’s Top 100

The Seattle Mariners already entered this season with the most prospects on Baseball America’s Top 100 list.

Now they have another one.

The Mariners whose stocks are rising and falling after opening week

Right-handed pitcher Ryan Sloan, a second-round pick in last summer’s MLB Draft, moved into the Top 100 as the No. 85 overall prospect in Baseball America’s updated rankings. That gives the Mariners eight prospects in the Top 100, which is two more than any other organization in MLB. The Los Angeles Dodgers and Tampa Bay Rays are the next-closest with six Top 100 prospects apiece.

Sloan, a 19-year-old Illinois native, was one of the top high school prospects in the 2024 draft class. The 6-foot-5, 220-pounder then continued to impress this spring, with some scouts tabbing him as the top pitching prospect they saw in Arizona, according to Baseball America.

“Sloan could be the next breakout Mariners pitching prospect,” Baseball America wrote. “He has three potentially above-average or better pitches and a starting pitcher’s frame.”

According to Baseball America, Sloan’s three-pitch mix features a mid-to-upper-90 mph fastball, a “slicing slider” and a changeup. All three pitches earned a plus grade of 60 from Baseball America on the 20-80 scouting scale.

Sloan flashed electric stuff – including a fastball that touched 97 mph – during the Mariners’ Spring Breakout game against the Cleveland Guardians’ top prospects on March 14. Most notably, he struck out fellow Top 100 prospect Ralphy Velazquez on three pitches.

Sloan is slated to begin his pro career at Low-A Modesto.

The Mariners’ other Top 100 prospects are shortstop Colt Emerson (No. 15), shortstop Cole Young (No. 54), outfielder Jonny Farmelo (No. 67), second baseman Michael Arroyo (No. 75), shortstop Felnin Celesten (No. 86), catcher Harry Ford (No. 93) and outfielder Lazaro Montes (No. 95).
