Seattle Mariners’ Cal Raleigh wins his first Silver Slugger

The Seattle Mariners’ Cal Raleigh will add to his trophy collection as he has won the American League Silver Slugger Award at catcher for the 2025 season.

The Silver Sluggers are voted on by managers and coaches to name the top offensive players at each position and teams in both the AL and National League.

It is Raleigh’s third major award after he won a Gold Glove and the AL’s Platinum Glove in 2024. A finalist for the fourth straight year, Raleigh picks up his first Silver Slugger Award, well outpacing fellow finalists Shea Langeliers (Athletics) and Salvador Perez (Kansas City Royals) with a historic year as a catcher.

Among all qualified catchers in 2025, Raleigh ranked first in games played, plate appearances (705), runs, home runs, RBIs, walks, on-base, slugging and OPS. He was second in hits (tied with 147) and stolen bases (14). He set new records for home runs in a season by a catcher, a switch-hitter and a Mariners player while leading MLB with 60, and he ranked first in the AL in RBIs (125), second in slugging (.589), third in OPS (.948) and second in fWAR (9.1).

Raleigh becomes the eighth player in team history to win a Silver Slugger Award, but he was the lone Mariners award winner in 2025.

Julio Rodríguez, who was a Silver Slugger in 2022 and 2023, was a finalist in the outfield alongside the Yankees’ Aaron Judge and Cody Bellinger, the Twins’ Byron Buxton, the Blue Jays’ George Springer and the Tigers’ Riley Greene. Judge, Buxton and Greene were named the three winners, while Springer won at designated hitter (he was a finalist at both positions).

Rodríguez hit .262/.324/.474 for a .798 OPS, and he led center fielders with a career-high 6.8 bWAR and a 5.7 fWAR. He ranked third in average, sixth in on-base, fourth in slugging and and second with a 128 OPS+. With 32 home runs and 30 stolen bases, Rodríguez became the first Mariners player to record multiple 30/30 seasons.

While Jazz Chisholm Jr. of the Yankees took the award at second base, Jorge Polanco was a finalist for the first time since 2021, having turned in one of the top offensive performances of his 12-year career.

Polanco, who is now a free agent, slashed .265/.326/.496 for an .821 OPS with 26 home runs and a career high wRC+ of 132. In a torrid September, he slashed .328/.380/.634 for a 1.015 OPS with a 181 wRC+, second-best on the Mariners behind Raleigh’s 183.

The Mariners were also one of three finalists for the AL team award along with the Yankees, who won, and the AL champion Blue Jays.

Awards season continues next week with, among others, the Rookie of the Year winners announced on Monday, Manager of the Year on Tuesday, the Cy Young Awards on Wednesday, and the MVPs on Thursday. Seattle’s Dan Wilson is a finalist for AL Manager of the Year, and Raleigh is a finalist for AL MVP.
