Mariners’ Brendan Donovan leaves game with hip issue

Seattle Mariners third baseman Brendan Donovan left Friday night’s game against the Texas Rangers early with tightness in his left hip, manager Dan Wilson said postgame.

Wilson said Donovan’s hip issue isn’t related to the leg discomfort that caused him to make an early exit during an April 3 game against the Los Angeles Angels and miss the following day.

Wilson didn’t seem too concerned about Donovan and said the team would know more Saturday.

Leo Rivas came into the game as a defensive replacement for Donovan in the top of the fourth inning.

Donovan was also held out of the lineup last Friday and Saturday against the Houston Astros with an illness, though he appeared as a pinch-hitter in the ninth inning of Saturday’s game.

The Mariners acquired Donovan this offseason from the St. Louis Cardinals in a three-time trade that sent pitching prospect Jurrangelo Cijntje and a Competitive Balance Round B pick in the 2026 draft to St. Louis, as well as third baseman Ben Williamson to Tampa Bay.

In his first 18 games as a Mariners, Donovan is hitting .308 with a .437 on-base percentage, .518 slugging percentage, .955 OPS, three homers, three doubles and eight RBIs.
