Rob Refsnyder is back with the Seattle Mariners after three days away on paternity leave, and his replacement during the interim is headed to the injured list.

Veteran infielder Patrick Wisdom has been placed on the 10-day IL with an oblique injury, making room for Refsnyder to return to the active roster.

Wisdom was called up from the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers on Tuesday when Refsnyder, an outfielder and designated hitter, was placed on the paternity list.

The 34-year-old Wisdom had three straight seasons of at least 23 home runs for the Chicago Cubs from 2021-23. He played in Korea in 2025, then joined the M’s on a minor league contract this offseason. He struck out in his lone appearance for Seattle this week but has nine home runs in just 15 games in Triple-A in 2026.

The 35-year-old Refsnyder, an offseason signing in free agency by the Mariners, is still looking for his first hit in a Seattle uniform, going 0 for 16 in eight games thus far this season. The right-handed hitter is known for producing against left-handed pitching, as he hit .302 with a .959 OPS and seven home runs in 138 plate appearances facing southpaws in 2025 for the Boston Red Sox.

The Mariners are back home at T-Mobile Park to open a three-game series against the Texas Rangers beginning with the opener at 6:40 p.m. Friday. Mariners Radio Network coverage begins on Seattle Sports 710 AM and the Seattle Sports app at 5:30 with the pregame show.
