The Mariners have made official what had been speculated since Sunday: Abraham Almonte is heading to Triple-A Tacoma and fellow outfielder James Jones is taking his place.

Jones, 25, will be in uniform for Monday’s series opener against Oakland in what will be his second stint with the Mariners this season. He went 1 for 1 against Miami on April 18 – which was his major-league debut – and since returning to Tacoma he has put together a 10-game hitting streak.

As Shannon Drayer wrote about Sunday, Almonte heads to Tacoma having struggled as Seattle’s leadoff hitter. He was hitting just .198 with a .248 on-base percentage in 27 games.
