A more tight-lipped Pete Carroll met with reporters Friday to give injury updates ahead of the Seahawks’ preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings.

Figuring out how Jadeveon Clowney fits with the Seahawks

“I thought I had a really bad performance on that one,” Carroll joked about last week’s press conference, during which he said the team would hold out quarterback Russell Wilson and several other starters. “So be prepared to hear nothing about who’s playing.”

Carroll did offer updates on players who are already expected to be sidelined, though, including defensive linemen Ziggy Ansah and L.J. Collier.

Carroll revealed that Ansah, who has been rehabbing the shoulder injury that landed him on Detroit’s injured reserve list last year, suffered a groin injury during practice about five days ago. However, the coach said it’s a minor injury that shouldn’t keep Ansah out of the regular season.

“It’s going to take him a bit,” Carroll said of Ansah. “It’s not a major injury at all. Really thrilled that his strength is back, he’s made it back to full strength in terms of his rehab for his shoulder. So we’re just waiting on his groin right now.”

More injury updates:

• Linebacker Shaquem Griffin (knee) was among those who were held out of practice Friday. Carroll said he doesn’t yet know what the injury means for Griffin’s game status.

• The Seahawks still have a few injuries at guard. Carroll said guard Jordan Simmons had “his knee worked on” and is going through rehab for that injury. Meanwhile, rookie Phil Haynes (sports hernia surgery) remains on the preseason PUP list, and Mike Iupati (calf) is also out.

“I don’t think (Haynes) is going to make it back for (preseason) games,” Carroll said. “It’ll be great to get him back the first week, it’s about the right time he could step a little bit closer to it. We’ll see. It’s kind of a race against time. I hope he would be able to but we’ve just got to take care of him, I don’t know that for sure yet.”

• There was no new update on tight end George Fant, who suffered an ankle injury in Seattle’s preseason opener. While Fant is now out of the walking boot, the team will need to wait a week or so to see how well he’s recovered.

• Carroll remained vague when it came to linebacker Bobby Wagner‘s participation in the preseason. Wagner recently underwent a procedure on his leg. (Gregg Bell of the Tacoma News Tribune reported Aug 5 that Wagner’s procedure was a platelet-rich plasma therapy injection and that he is expected to be ready in time for Seattle’s regular season opener on Sept. 8).

“It would be good for Bobby to get a chance to get on the field,” Carroll said of Wagner. “We’ll see if we can get that done. It kind of depends on how the practices go and how his work goes. He would be better off if he could play some. Just to get going, just to get a feel. But other than that he’s a master of what we’re doing and all, he’ll play well and play sharp and smart regardless because he’s been involved in all the mental side of the stuff. But it would leave him maybe a little more rusty starting off, but it won’t take him long.”

• Running back Bo Scarbrough, who suffered a hand injury against the Denver Broncos, has suffered a more recent groin injury. Carroll isn’t sure whether Scarbrough will be able to play Sunday.

• Carroll said rookie defensive end L.J. Collier (ankle) is making good progress: “I was with him this morning. He’s feeling good. He’s working, moving around a lot, he’s getting closer… I don’t know what the timeline will be there, but he’s pushing it now, so that’s good to know.”
