Gus Bradley was the defensive coordinator behind the Seahawks’ original Legion of Boom secondary, and he had a big role on the Seahawks’ Super Bowl-winning team. So it should come as no surprise that the Seahawks are reportedly interested in bringing him back.

John Schneider staying put with Seahawks after Packers hire new GM

ESPN’s Adam Schefter said on the television network’s “Sunday NFL Countdown” that the team has interest in him returning to Seattle, but it’s a little more complicated than simply putting him back at defensive coordinator. The Seahawks already have that position filled by Kris Richard, though he is currently a candidate to be the next Indianapolis Colts head coach. Even if Richard stays with the Seahawks, the fact remains that the Seattle defense slipped in 2017, his third season in the role.

As for Bradley, he is presently the defensive coordinator with the Los Angeles Chargers, a job he took after Jacksonville fired him following four years as the Jaguars head coach.

The Seahawks ranked 11th in yards allowed and tied for 13th in points allowed in 2017. Bradley’s Chargers were 15th in yards allowed but third in points allowed.

The Seahawks have given no indication that Richard could be on his way out, but that doesn’t necessarily rule out the possibility of Bradley joining the staff, as 710 ESPN Seattle’s Gee Scott said Monday that the Hawks could get creative with job titles, whether it’s making Bradley a co-defensive coordinator or a defensive consultant.

If anything happens with Bradley – or one of the Seahawks’ assistants rumored to be on the hot seat like offensive line coach Tom Cable – it’s likely to happen soon, according to 710 ESPN Seattle’s John Clayton.

“Can Gus Bradley come back? … Will there be a change with Tom Cable? Hey, Wednesday is the deadline,” Clayton said.
