Richard Sherman is recovering well from surgery to repair his torn Achilles, Pete Carroll told reporters during his final press conference of the season Tuesday. The Seahawks’ head coach also said the All Pro cornerback will undergo a second surgery on his opposite leg to “clean up some stuff.”

“He’s going beautifully,” Carroll said. “He’s got another surgery coming up, his other leg, to clean some stuff up. Not the same Achilles surgery that he had but he will have to a much lesser degree recovery. It will be a four- to six-week thing he thinks. But he’s going to take care of himself to make sure that he’s right. That’s really important. He’s really on the positive side. He’s had a tremendous attitude about it. He feels pretty darn good. I think he’s out of the boot like this week or something like that. So on goes his progress. I think in the next couple weeks he’ll do the other one.”

Carroll said Sherman’s second surgery would be “in the area” of the Achilles.

“There’s bone spurs and things like that. He’s got a cleanup job that he needs to do. He had a problem on both sides throughout the year.”

Sherman suffered the season-ending Achilles rupture in Seattle’s Thursday night win over the Cardinals in Week 10. He had been playing through an Achilles issue for several weeks at that point. The injury also brought an end to a particularly impressive streak: Sherman had never before in his seven-year career missed a game due to injury.

“I knew what was happening,” Sherman told reporters after the game. “It’s been bothering me all season. It was one of those things where you just have to play through it as long as you can and when it goes, it goes.”

The November surgery left Sherman with a recovery timeline of approximately six to eight months – though Carroll told reporters at the time that it was too early to know whether a return by training camp was possible.

Sherman, 29, has one year remaining on his 4-year, $56 million contract with Seattle.
