The Seahawks’ electric 41-38 win over the Houston Texans marked a career night for two of Seattle’s young receivers.

Both Paul Richardson and Tyler Lockett finished with over 100 yards. Richardson was also responsible for two touchdowns – his first multiple-touchdown game as a Seahawk – and would have had three if not for a teammate’s chop block penalty.

But, just as important, both players came up with big plays when the Seahawks needed them most. Their key catches served as a reminder that Seattle’s two speediest players can also be their biggest play makers.

“We’ve been saying this for so long: we have so much talent, we have so much ability, it’s just… we’ve got to show it,” fellow wide receiver Doug Baldwin said postgame.

A key catch from Richardson came on the Seahawks’ final drive. With just under 1:40 remaining, the Seahawks needed 80 yards to get into the end zone. On the first play of the drive, Richardson sprinted down the middle of the field and made a leaping grab over Texans safety Marcus Gilchrist to haul in a pass from Russell Wilson. The play added up to 48 yards for Seattle and put them deep into Houston territory. Two plays later, Wilson hit tight end Jimmy Graham for a touchdown pass and the win.

“He’s always had the talent,” Baldwin said when asked about Richardson’s injury-plagued period earlier in his career. “He’s always had the mindset, he just needed the opportunities and (to be) healthy, and he has that now.”

Lockett finished the night as the team’s leading receiver with 121 yards on 8 catches.

“Both of us are putting our faith first in everything, trying to trust God in every situation, and being able to see him come out there and do a lot of great things today, I mean, it was amazing,” Lockett said of Richardson. “I was so happy for him. He’s doing great things out there, he’s getting open, he’s making plays when his name is called, scored two touchdowns – thought he was going for the hat trick. Finally got the hat trick, then they threw a flag. But you know, that just says a lot about our receiving corp. Everybody is capable of making a game-breaking play at any moment, and all you have to do is get the opportunity.”

Richardson now has five touchdowns on the season, but said he simply “couldn’t be happier” to get a win, regardless of his stat line. Lockett posted perhaps his best game of the season, and his first this year with over 100 receiving yards.

Both players remained humble after the game, praising the team’s win. Baldwin, though, said something Seahawks fans are undoubtedly hoping for from the two young receivers over the second half of the season.

“They can showcase who they are now.”
