Trailing 10-0 in the fourth quarter, the Seattle Seahawks found themselves in a precarious position needing to engineer a multi-score comeback down to their backup quarterback.

But three fourth-quarter interceptions by the defense and solid performance from Drew Lock helped the Seahawks pullout a 13-10 comeback victory over the New England Patriots in the NFL season opener on Wednesday night at Lumen Field.
Seattle Sports’ Brock Huard and Dave Wyman – a pair of former Seahawks – shared their instant reactions to Seattle’s come-from-behind victory in the Super Bowl 60 rematch.
Brock’s take
“I don’t know about you all, but I was standing a lot. I think I burned a lot of calories watching that one,” Huard said. “That did not feel like a 13-10 barnburner. But wow, what an opening night, what a Wednesday night and what a win.”
For Huard, the performances by Seattle’s reserves who were thrust into prominent roles in the opener stood out most.
“Twelve as one, that is constantly the message, what’s preached. It’s what Mike Macdonald talked about pregame. I’m sure it’s what he’s going to be talking about postgame because it took everybody – all 12 of them – including the crowd that came to life there in the fourth quarter,” Huard said. “But much more importantly the Nehemiah Pritchett’s, the Rodney Thomas’s, the backups that were thrown into the mix that played the best game of their careers.
“I mean, Nehemiah Pritchett played the best game of his career. Josh Jobe played one of the best games of his career, rising to the occasion. And maybe burying the lead here because that’s about as good as Drew Lock can play.”

Lock came in after Sam Darnold injured his hip on the Seahawks’ opening drive.
“He stepped in the fold when Sam went down and played a tremendous game and outplayed Drake Maye,” Huard said. “He made no mistakes. Drake made three critical errors, including one that was just dumbfounding at the end of the game. But find a way to win is what the Seahawks did over and over and over again in ’25… The backups, the ready squad – let’s just say they were ready on opening night.”
Wyman’s take
The penalties that plagued the Seahawks early in this one (they had 6 for 68 yards compared to none for the Patriots at halftime) stuck out to Wyman. But in the end, it was the plus-three turnover differential, which included zero giveaways by Seattle’s offense, that was the most important stat.
“That’s now 21 quarters they’ve gone going back to last year without giving the ball away. So, of all the things that happened or didn’t work, or the penalties that they had in the first half, it all got corrected because of the takeaways,” Wyman said. “The Seahawks gave the ball up second most in the NFL last year, but if you go back to the San Francisco game at the end of the year and all through the playoffs, zero giveaways. That’s everything.”
“You didn’t have all your guys (in the secondary), you weren’t at full strength. So, I just thought that made it an even better win,” Wyman added.
Wyman also highlighted the performances of Lock, wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba and edge rusher Uchenna Nwosu.
“That was a big win and we’re off and running, man, and that’s a really good team that they just beat,” Wyman said.
