SEATTLE – Head coach Mike Macdonald said the Seattle Seahawks got “great news” regarding quarterback Sam Darnold, who exited with a hip injury early in Wednesday night’s season-opening 13-10 win over the New England Patriots.

Macdonald said postgame that initial testing appears to have ruled out a fracture.
Darnold is slated to undergo an MRI on Thursday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
“At this point, we were able to rule out a fracture,” Macdonald said. “There’s some more tests to be done. … We’re still working through all that, but right now I think fracture is out, which is great news.”
Darnold got injured on Seattle’s fifth snap of the game, when he landed on his right knee as former Seahawks edge rusher Dre’Mont Jones brought him to the turf for a third-down sack.
Darnold limped off the field and was evaluated in the medical tent before heading to the locker room for further evaluations. He was initially listed as questionable to return, but was ruled out shortly before halftime.
Drew Lock replaced Darnold and played the rest of the game, completing 16 of 22 passes for 187 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions.
“We love Drew,” Macdonald said. “The guys love him. He’s just a Seahawk through and through, man. Your heart goes out to Sam. We’re praying that it’s minor. He’s had such a great offseason. But Drew has too. … We had a lot of confidence in Drew coming in and playing at a high level.”
The Seahawks now have a mini-bye before traveling to face the Arizona Cardinals on Sept. 20.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Sam,” Macdonald said. “We love him, and the guys really pulled through for him.”
