Recent contender for Seahawks No. 3 CB spot signs with Browns

Noah Igbinoghene, who was a leading contender in the Seattle Seahawks’ third cornerback battle earlier this month, signed with the Cleveland Browns’ 53-man roster on Tuesday morning.

The Seahawks released the 26-year-old Igbinoghene during Sunday’s roster cutdowns and didn’t re-sign him to their practice squad on Monday.

There was some thought that Igbinoghene might still sign with Seattle later on and factor into the team’s cornerback room, but that door now appears to be closed.

Igbinoghene, a 2020 first-round draft pick by the Miami Dolphins, signed a one-year, $1.81 million deal with Seattle in March. And early in training camp, he appeared to be in a two-man battle with Nehemiah Pritchett to replace Riq Woolen as the Seahawks’ CB3 behind entrenched starters Devon Witherspoon and Josh Jobe.

However, the complexion of Seattle’s cornerback room has changed significantly over the past few weeks.

The Seahawks signed former two-time Pro Bowler Trevon Diggs, who is aiming to resurrect a career that’s been derailed by knee injuries. He’s currently on Seattle’s practice squad, but could factor into the CB3 battle as he ramps up.

The Seahawks signed former first-round draft pick Terrion Arnold, who faces eight felony charges and was placed on the NFL commissioner’s exempt list Sunday as his legal proceedings unfold. It’s unclear if and when he could factor in this season, but he remains a potential option down the road.

The Seahawks swung a trade with the Los Angeles Chargers for undrafted rookie cornerback Avery Smith, who reportedly was a standout in training camp.

And rookie third-round pick Julian Neal, who was sidelined for most of camp with a quad injury, has returned to practice.

Those developments created a crowded cornerback room that seemingly left Igbinoghene without a spot.
