The current season of HBO’s “Hard Knocks” is providing a very interesting peak behind the curtain with the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks. On Tuesday’s third episode of the season, one thing specifically jumped out to Seattle Sports’ Brock Huard.

Bump: ‘There’s some concern’ with Seattle Seahawks’ CB situation

The longtime FOX football broadcaster and former NFL quarterback noticed that Seahawks wide receiver Cooper Kupp shows up a lot on screen – specifically in position meetings. But that’s not limited to meetings in the wide receivers room.

“I’m not the purveyor of all knowledge of every QB room and every wide receiver in the history of the NFL, but I have never in my lifetime seen a receiver that is in the QB room as often as Cooper Kupp is,” Huard said on Wednesday’s edition of Brock and Salk. “(He’s there) every time they show that QB room – and again, he’s also in his wide receiver room.

“Any time he’s done with his wide receiver work, he is finding himself in that QB room, talking to Sam (Darnold), talking to to (Drew) Lock, talking to Mike Macdonald, who by the way it looks like also frequents that quarterback room, knows that that’s kind of the heartbeat of the whole deal.”

Asked how “uncommon” Kupp is, Huard was pretty effusive in his response.

“Unbelievable. I’ve never seen anything like it,” Huard said. “… Cooper’s not just seeing it, he’s learning it, he’s hearing it, he’s connected to it. There’s so many cool nuggets in this show, but that one, the Cooper Kupp story, pretty remarkable.”

Kupp, a 33-year-old Yakima native and EWU Eagles product, is entering his 10th NFL season and second back in his home state with the Seahawks. Though he isn’t the same player that had one of the greatest campaigns in NFL history by a wide receiver back in 2021 with the Los Angeles Rams, he proved to be valuable in helping Seattle win its second Super Bowl title last year, which was also his second career championship.

“Hard Knocks” now seems to be shedding light on just how important of a role Kupp plays not just on the field but behind the scenes.

Brock Huard answers three football questions during the Blue 88 segment at 7:45 a.m. weekdays on Seattle Sports. Catch Brock and Salk live from 6-10 a.m. Monday-Friday on Seattle Sports.
