Seahawks sign former UFL edge rusher, waive WR

The Seattle Seahawks added to their edge rushing depth on Tuesday by signing Garrett Nelson to their 90-man roster.

In a corresponding move, Seattle waived undrafted rookie wide receiver Kyre Duplessis, who signed with the team last week.

Nelson, 26, has bounced around several NFL rosters since going undrafted out of Nebraska in 2023. He spent time on the Denver Broncos’ and New Orleans Saints’ practice squad last season and had a stint on the Cincinnati Bengals’ practice squad in 2023. He also spent the 2023 preseason with the Miami Dolphins. He has yet to record an NFL regular-season snap.

Nelson also played for the United Football League’s San Antonio Brahmas in 2024 and 2025. He totaled 2.5 sacks, three tackles for loss and two forced fumbles in 17 games over his two seasons with San Antonio.

Nelson was a three-year starter for Nebraska from 2020-22. Over his final two college seasons, he totaled 10.5 sacks, 20.5 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and four pass breakups. He was a second-team All-Big Ten selection and a team captain for the Cornhuskers in 2022.

The Seahawks already have a crowded edge rushing corps, headlined by five-time Pro Bowler DeMarcus Lawrence, Uchenna Nwosu, Derick Hall and veteran free agent addition Dante Fowler Jr. Other edge rushers on their roster are Connor O’Toole, Jared Ivey, Jamie Sheriff, Jalan Gaines, Aidan Hubbard and Marvin Jones Jr.
