Mariners’ Cal Raleigh tells Seattle Times he’s returning Tuesday

The Seattle Mariners will indeed get Cal Raleigh back on Tuesday, according to Adam Jude, who covers the M’s for The Seattle Times.

The Times published Monday afternoon an article written by Jude that features quotes from Raleigh about his expected return from his first career stint on the injured list.

The 29-year-old Raleigh has been on the 10-day injured list since mid-May with a right oblique strain, an injury that had previously sidelined him for a stretch of games in early May.

Raleigh is coming off of a successful minor league rehab assignment where he hit five home runs in five games, including two multi-homer games for the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers.

Prior to his injury, Raleigh was off to a disappointing start to the season, especially when compared to his record-setting 2025 campaign where he became the first catcher to hit 60 home runs in season – or 50, for that matter – and broke Ken Griffey Jr.’s Mariners record of 56 homers in a season.

In 41 games for the Mariners this year, the switch-hitting Raleigh is slashing just .161/.243/.317 for a .560 OPS with seven home runs, four doubles and 18 walks to 57 strikeouts. Raleigh seemed to pick up steam with a 20-game stretch in April where he hit all of his homers and posted an .846 OPS, but he fell into a nine-game hitless streak that began three days before he missed his first action due to the oblique issue.

In addition to Raleigh returning Tuesday, the Mariners are expected to also activate shortstop J.P. Crawford, who has been on the 10-day IL since June 7 (retroactive to June 6) with a right hand contusion.

The Mariners cleared one spot on the 26-man active roster late Monday morning by optioning veteran infielder Patrick Wisdom to Triple-A.

The AL West-leading M’s (37-36 record) open a homestand against the Baltimore Orioles at 6:40 p.m. Tuesday, with Mariners Radio Network coverage on Seattle Sports beginning at 5:30 with the pregame show.
