Josh Naylor has been picking up steam lately for the Seattle Mariners, and he came up with his biggest hit of the season thus far Monday night.

Naylor turned on a 95 mph fastball on the high inside corner from Baltimore’s Anthony Nunez and snuck it just over the tall wall in right field at Camden Yards for a grand slam, giving the M’s a 5-1 lead in the fifth inning. The Mariners went on to win 6-3 to improve their AL West-leading record to 35-32.

It’s been a big past few days for Naylor, who has gone 7 for 17 (.412) since Seattle opened a 10-game road trip Friday. But that’s just part of a larger trend for the veteran first baseman.
Naylor got off to a rough start to the season, as he was just 6 for 59 (.102) with no extra-base hits through his first 15 games. But entering Monday, he had slashed .308/.362/.445 for an .805 OPS with six home runs, seven doubles, 22 runs scored and 24 RBIs over a 43-game stretch. On top of that, he has 12 stolen bases on 15 attempts.
Naylor only added to that all on Monday, coming up with his 19th multi-hit game of the year.

Seattle made a key trade ahead of the deadline last July to get Naylor from the Arizona Diamondbacks, and he proved to be an important part of the team that reached Game 7 of the American League Championship Series for the first time in franchise history. The midseason acquisition went so well that the 28-year-old Naylor signed early in the offseason to a five-year, $92.5 million contract.
Naylor and the Mariners will continue their four-game series in Baltimore with Game 2 at 3:35 p.m. Tuesday. Mariners Radio Network coverage on Seattle Sports will begin at 2:30 with the pregame show.
